Obituary for Cheryl L. "Cha" Ferguson (Sarvis)

Cheryl L. "Cha" Ferguson (Sarvis)
February 13, 1963 – May 18, 2018
New Windsor, NY

Cheryl was sent home to be with the Lord at 2:04 pm on May 18, 2018. After a two year battle with Bulbar ALS the Lord took her by the hand to escort her home.

The daughter of Carol and Ormond, she was born on February 13, 1963 at St. Luke’s Hospital Newburgh, NY.

Cheryl was given the nickname Cha by her dear friend Madeline O’Sullivan during her youth and it remained with her all her days. She graduated from CCHS in 1981 and went on to earn her bachelors from Berkeley Business School. In 1986 she married her sweetheart, Edward Ferguson, also from Cornwall and they had two sons: Ryan and Eric.

She worked all her life and overcame many obstacles. In 2016 she was diagnosed with Bulbar ALS. She continued to work two jobs while privately battling this heinous disease. Her hometown rallied around her and showed support on several occasions. Those days meant the world to her.

For the last six months of her time here, she fought with the strength of a lion. Her faith in Jesus and belief for healing was her driving force, that and her love for her family. One of her mantras: I can do all through Christ who strengthens me Philippians 4:13.

Cheryl was an avid bowler and a lotto junkie (right Al?) She loved a good shopping spree and watching the Ellen show. She had a smile, so beautiful and bright - by far the best we’ve ever known. She was a confidant, a powerhouse, and most of all, our HERO. She was a daughter, mother, sister, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her parents Carol and Ormond; step mother Ruthann; her children: Ryan Ferguson (grandchildren Joseph and Suzy) and Eric Ferguson; brothers: Peter and Brian Sarvis; sister: Pamela Popowick and her husband Tom Popowick (Dink); niece: Gabrielle Ludlow and nephews: Jayden Ludlow, and Parker and Cole Popowick; her best friend: Diane Cifarelli; her second parents: Marion and Jack Jackson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cheryl’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude for all the input of the medical personnel involved in her care over the last few weeks of her life. Special thanks goes out to Dr. Muslim, Dr. Q, Chaudhury, Dr. Joseph and all the staff from 4 North and ICU at St. Luke’s Hospital, also, Kaplan Hospice Family Medical Center and lastly The ALS Foundation at Columbia Presbyterian in NYC. A special thank you to Pastor Tom Stimpson and his wife Elaine as well as Assistant Pastor Sean Davis.

One of her last wishes that was fulfilled was to donate her organs for ALS research in hopes of eradicating this horrible disease forever.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 1st at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 8 p.m. following the visitation. Pastor Thomas F. Stimpson will officiate. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, NY.

Arrangements are entrusted to Quigley Bros. Funeral Home; to send condolences or to get directions to the funeral home, please go to
