Jane Doris Deans, a former lifetime resident of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on January 26, 2018 at Schervier Pavilion in Warwick, NY. She was 90 years old.
The daughter of the late Albert Joseph Longinott and Doris (Taylor) Longinott, Jane Doris Longinott was born on November 2, 1927 in Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY.
After graduating from high school, Jane went on to attend college in Syracuse. She returned to Cornwall-On-Hudson where Jane married John S. Deans on May 17, 1947. Mr. and Mrs. Deans enjoyed traveling and frequently visited Cape Cod and the Jersey Shore for family vacations. They spent 50 happy years together until Johnny’s death in 1997. They had one son, William T. Deans.
Jane worked for many years as a proof editor for the former Cornwall Press. She used these skills well into retirement helping proofread college assignments for family and books in publication for friends. Jane also was a literacy volunteer at the Newburgh Free Library helping adults learn to read.
Jane enjoyed following local politics and was a poll worker for many years for the Orange County Board of Elections. Jane also serviced on the Town of Cornwall Planning Board.
Jane's talents were many, she enjoyed ballroom dancing, ice-skating on Ring's Pond and was an especially good baker. She often won awards for her baking at local fairs. Jane was a member of the Saint Thomas of Canterbury Church. Jane will be fondly remembered for her keen sense of humor, and her devotion and love for her family and friends.
Jane is survived by her daughter-in-law: Pamela C. Deans of Ashburn, VA; her grandchildren: Jennifer L. Leach and her husband David of Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY and Kevin J. Deans and his wife Jennifer of Ashburn, VA; her great grandchildren: Daniel and Michael Leach and Kevin J. Deans, II; her sister: JoAnn Armstrong and her husband Donald of Niagara Falls, NY; her sister-in-law: Elizabeth Longinott of Cornwall, NY, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband John S. Deans, Jane was predeceased by her son William T. Deans and her brother Albert Longinott.
Memorial Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27th at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Prayer Service will be held following visitation at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, Route 94, Salisbury Mills, NY.
